For a long time, I haven’t posted a blog on China. I have been waiting for my site to become functional, at least good enough to work on, for my patient and understanding friends, who may not have to tear their hair and swear and curse. It was sent to me by one Chinese fan Mr. Young. Mr. Young, it seems to me is indeed quite young because, in the narration, he talks of his school, perhaps, he studies there.I reckon, he is not more than sixteen years old. What has amazed me is his awareness. XiChong(西 充) my home town is a county of SiChuan province ,China. It is under the administration of NanChong city. My hometown belongs to 6th-level city in China. It has 3000 years of history. Around 2000 ago，General JiXing（纪信, during a famous battle,sacrificed his life to save the Emperor LiuBang（刘邦）,who was founder of Han Dynasty. To honor the sacrifice of his loyal soldier the king named my hometown as the “town of loyalty”. It also has an interesting nickname “Kingdom of sweet potato” that it earned in the recent decades because in 1959~1961, millions of people died in the so called “great famine” caused as a result of “the great leap forward” during Mao’s period，but Xichong had the great-harvest of sweet potato just in that time that saved the lives of thousands people. That is how this town got a nickname of Kingdom of Sweet Potatoes. 西充是四川的一个县，由南充市管辖。我的家乡属于中国的六线城市，拥有3000年的历史。 First, I will show you some old pictures of the period between 1985 to 1990. The Main Street- This picture is of the bridge connecting the City to the Main Street. Sincere effort by My Young to tell us how his home town XiChong with 3000 years of history preserved there is changing fast in last 50 to 60 yrs. Pictures are very interesting. In a way the changing landscape of the city old and new dwellings coming side by side is somewhat similar to many old Indian cities with thousands of years of living history in them. One such city that comes to my mind is Varanasi in UP with the stark difference XiChong is city by the mountains while Varanasi in India is a city by a perennial river Ganga. Look forward to more pictures. Mr Young will probably bring us dramatic transformation of this city in recent times. One interesting feature I notice is old settlements with thatched roof are huddled together and so are the newer buildings built with modern construction materials. Both indicate people live here in groups; many large families together perhaps. The other thing I notice is every one wears long pants; men and women wear jackets; perhaps it is cold here in XiChong most of the time. I remember when I was in college, my father’s friends would ask him to buy some land for making a house but my father would say, I am building four houses simultaneously ( meaning that- supporting four children through college, which was too much for him with his small salary) Education indeed is very necessary for the progress of any nation. The story of the fathers robbing and stealing may be an exaggeration because besides giving proper education, giving right set of morals also is the responsibility of the parents 其实印度也是如此，父母非常看重教育。记得我读大学时，我父亲的朋友向他借钱买地建房子，我父亲说，我正在同时建4栋房子（意思是，养4个孩子读大学，而这对他卑微的薪水来说太超过了）。对国家的进步来说，教育确实非常必要。而父亲去抢去偷的故事也许有些夸张，因为除了让孩子接受教育外，为孩子树立正确的道德观也是父母的责任。

navneetkumarbakshi Dear Suresh Ji, It is indeed heartening to see the two nations talking of co-operation. I hope the border issues to get sorted out. In fact after 1962 war India has been ever suspicious of China. Until a short while ago I had no idea of what Chinese thought of the war. I got to read about their version of the story when one blog of mine that broached this subject got viral. Here’s the link to that It was a shock for me to know that Chinese story was entirely different from ours and they think that India imposed a war on them. Well, that issue may not get sorted out ever but as regards border issues, the Chinese who interact with me say that it were the British who marked the border between India and China and it was done unilaterally. China was not a signatory to this and China was too weak to stand up and speak, however China of today doesn’t have any territorial ambitions and I think there are leaders aren’t stupid to consider engaging in war with India to divert the attention of the people from other pressing issues as does Pakistan. No Indian believes that it was Indian aggression and frankly speaking, you can’t say with certainty that it was India who started the war. Neither India or China wanted this war because they were poor and not prepared to fight. There was no ammunition, no food rations, no technical know how, no roads and armory but it was kind of belligerence of one leader and stupidity of the other. 没有印度人会相信是印度发起侵略的。坦白说，你无法肯定是印度发起了那场战争。不仅印度，而且中国也不想打那场战争，两国都是穷国，不准备打仗。没有弹药，没有口粮，没有技术，没有公路，没有武器，都是一方领导人的好战外加另一方领导人的愚蠢所致。
I said in my previous blog that the transformation of China is a representative of the change that is taking place all over China. Though change is a continuous process in this universe but such changes are not perceptible, they are very slow. 在前面的文章说过，西充的变化是中国各地变化的代表。变化是宇宙中持续的过程，但是这种变化是不明显的，过程非常缓慢。
